Sonata Arctica & Stratovarius at Tavara-asema

On Friday, March 7th, Finnish power metal legends Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius took the stage at Tavara-asema in Tampere as part of their Nordic Power Metal Titans 2025 tour. With both bands having long-established reputations in the melodic metal scene, the night was bound to be a special one for fans. The tickets were sold out well before the show, and the venue, which has a capacity of around 1200 people, was full.

The evening began with Arion, a Helsinki-based symphonic power metal band, giving an energetic performance.

Sonata Arctica took the stage first, delivering a mix of new and old material. Tracks from their latest album, Clear Cold Beyond (2024), such as First in Line and Dark Empath, fit smoothly alongside classics like Fullmoon, San Sebastian or Wolf & Raven. The crowd was really enthusiastic and it could be felt with the audience singing along to many of the songs.

Stratovarius followed up with their signature blend of speed, melody, and technical precision. Their setlist included a few newer songs (two from their latest album Survive), but largely focused on their older tracks such as Black Diamond, Eagleheart, and Hunting High and Low. The show couldn’t be missing some extended sing along during aforementioned Hunting High and Low, led by Timo Kotipelto.

Both bands delivered strong performances, showing why they continue to be important parts of the power metal scene.
